An Antique Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Plate
Depicting a lotus flower in the center surrounded by a floral design. Decorated lip with insects in medallions on four sides and geometrical design. Underglaze blue mark. Ca. Qing Dynasty, 19th. Century. Size: d: 8 1/4 in. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). An American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
