AN ANTIQUE CHINESE PORCELAIN BLUE AND WHITE PLATE
With blue trees depicted at the center of the plate and floral motif on the four cartouches on the lip. Marked on the bottom of the plate in blue ink underglaze. Ca. 19th. century. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
