ETHIOPIAN BRONZE RELIQUARY CROSS
Ca. AD 1600 - 1800.An Ethiopian bronze reliquary cross pendant, decorated with an open work cross in the centre. It has a round hoop on the top for a chain or suspension rope. The back is undecorated. Cross-shaped pendants were popular among the general population and the clergy in Ethiopian society, particularly those within monastic orders.Size: 44mm x 37mm; Weight: 16gProvenance: Property of London gallery, acquired on the Austrian art market.
