EGYPTIAN STEATITE SCARAB IN GOLD FRAME
Ca. 1650 -1550 BC (main Hyksos period). An Ancient Egyptian scarab from the Hyksos period, made of steatite and set in a golden frame. Its base features a hieroglyphic inscription with the symbols het (a lion’s front paw, meaning “forefront”), nebu (meaning “gold”) and ankh (meaning “life”). On the back, only the head of the beetle is depicted, while the beginnings of the wings are faintly demarcated. Size: L:27mm / W:17mm ; 4.65g Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in the early 2000s; previously in 1970s UK collection. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
