A KHORASAN BLACK-SLIPWARE PAINTED POTTERY BOWL WITH CREAM DECORATION
Possibly Khurasan, Ca. 10th - 11th century AD. A pottery bowl of shallow rounded form on a short foot and with a slightly everted rim. The body coated in a dark manganese-black slip, decorated in a contrasting cream slip with a striking radial pattern. The interior features six almond-shaped motifs enclosing stylised palmettes, alternating with interlaced ribbon forms and small split-palmettes, all encircling a central rosette. A fine zigzag band borders the rim. The decorative scheme is carefully executed in reserved slip-painting, a technique typical of eastern Iranian slipwares of this period.Size: 285mm x 100mm; Weight: 1.18kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
