A CARVED WOODEN ARCHITECTURAL FRIEZE PANEL, PROBABLY SPANISH OR NORTH AFRICAN
Possibly North Africa or Spain, Ca. 15th century AD. A long architectural beam or frieze carved from a single piece of hardwood. The face is deeply incised in a continuous scrolling design of stylised foliate and floral motifs, incorporating rosettes, split-palmettes, and volutes in rhythmic repetition. The carving retains traces of red pigment in the recessed areas. The reverse is plain and undecorated, with iron pins still inserted, suggesting original structural use. The ends are roughly squared, one showing losses consistent with age and historic use.Size: 1060mm x 75mm; Weight: 2.1kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
