A MINA'I WARE CERAMIC BOWL WITH FLORAL DECORATION
Persia, Ca. 12th - 13th century AD . A ceramic bowl of cavetto form. The interior is adorned with a central floral medallion radiating outward in an elaborate composition of interwoven arabesques and stylised foliage in cobalt blue, turquoise, and black over a creamy white glaze. The intricate geometric lattice is punctuated by small crosshatched motifs, creating a delicate yet rhythmic pattern typical of Style 1a mina'i ware. The exterior bears a bold black pseudo-inscription in cursive script encircling the rim. The lip of the bowl is accentuated by a zigzag border in blue, framing the finely balanced decoration. Despite extensive areas of restoration and sherds from multiple bowls combined into one, the original vibrancy of the polychrome inglaze and overglaze decoration remains evident, underscoring the technical brilliance of Persian ceramic artisans.
