A FINE PERSIAN OPENWORK AND ENGRAVED IRON PRIMER OR POWDER FLASK
Iran, Ca. Late 17th - early 18th century AD. A rare and elaborately decorated powder flask of iron, the body formed of curved tubular construction with a domed hinged lid and scrolling spout. The entire surface is finely engraved and gold overlaid with vegetal arabesques and floral motifs on a blackened ground. The upper section is composed of delicately pierced and openworked foliate panels, likely functioning as suspension loops or attachments, each with matching scrolling motifs and trefoil terminals. Retains original pins and elements of the mechanism.Size: 130mm x 120mm; Weight: 225gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
