A FINE PERSIAN OPENWORK AND ENGRAVED IRON PRIMER OR POWDER FLASK
Iran, Ca. Late 17th - early 18th century AD. A rare and elaborately decorated powder flask of iron, the body formed of curved tubular construction with a domed hinged lid and scrolling spout. The entire surface is finely engraved and gold overlaid with vegetal arabesques and floral motifs on a blackened ground. The upper section is composed of delicately pierced and openworked foliate panels, likely functioning as suspension loops or attachments, each with matching scrolling motifs and trefoil terminals.
