AN INDIAN MINIATURE PAINTING OF A MOTHER AND CHILD
Possibly Kota, North Indian, Ca. 19th century AD. A painting in gouache and gold on paper, depicting a noblewoman seated on a green cushion within a palace interior, dressed in a rich red *odhani* adorned with gold floral motifs. She cradles a young child in her lap, both adorned with intricate pearl and gold jewellery. Above them, a finely detailed cradle swings, suggesting a moment of maternal care. The deep blue background contrasts with the finely drawn white marble architecture, with delicate latticework balustrades adding depth to the composition. A vibrant red and gold border frames the scene, enhancing its regal presence. This painting embodies the Rajput miniature style, known for its vibrant use of colour and intricate detailing.Size: 175mm x 125mm; Weight: 10gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
