A PAIR OF CARVED MOTHER OF PEARL INLAID TORCHÈRE STANDS
Syria or Damascus, Ca. Early 20th century AD. A pair of carved mother-of-pearl inlaid torchère stands with square tops decorated with classical motifs and central mother-of-pearl inlay. The moulded fore-edges lead to profusely carved friezes with Arabic arch shapes, also inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Below, turned and ring-turned legs support a lower shelf carved and inlaid in a similar manner, featuring arches and floral motifs. Each stand rests on four squat bun feet.Size: 1160-1160mm x 360-360mm; Weight: 14.4kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
