TWO CALLIGRAPHIC ALBUM LEAVES OF PERSIAN SUFI POETRY, INCLUDING HAFEZ AND SA‘DI
Persia, Ca. 1170 AH / AD 1770, 18th century AD. A pair of finely illuminated manuscript leaves from a Persian anthology of Sufi poetry, comprising verses by celebrated poets such as Hafez and Sa‘di, arranged in safina (boat-shaped) format. The text is executed in diagonal lines within cloud-band reserves, alternating between shikasteh and nasta‘liq scripts in black ink, framed by elegant gold scrollwork borders. Each leaf is further enriched with touches of gilt decoration and subtle outlining in red and blue. The elegant layout and refined aesthetic typify Persian manuscript illumination of the later Safavid and early Qajar periods.Size: 180mm x 130mm; Weight: 50gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
