AL-‘AQ?DAH AL-NASAF?YYAH OTTOMAN MANUSCRIPT WITH COMMENTARY
Ottoman or Central Asia, Ca. 18th - early 19th century AD. A theological manuscript containing the influential Sunni creed al-‘Aq?dah al-Nasafiyyah by Najm al-D?n ‘Umar al-Nasaf? (d. 1142), accompanied by a commentary attributed to ?al?? al-D?n al-Kayd?n?, with additional glosses by Ibd?l al-Qand?. The manuscript opens with a bold red title inscription and continues in a clear black naskh script with red rubrication throughout, arranged in dense blocks of text with marginal notes and interlinear glosses in smaller script. The manuscript is bound in an Ottoman-style dark brown morocco binding, with an envelope flap, decorated with a central blind-tooled medallion and cornerpieces picked out in gold. The endpapers are embossed with a geometric lattice pattern. The layout, script, and careful structure of commentary suggest use in a madrasa or scholarly setting.Size: 260mm x 180mm; Weight: 1.08kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
