A KHORASAN COPPER INLAID EWER
Khurasan, Ca. 12th - 13th century AD. A copper ewer with slightly widening cylindrical body, flat shoulder, tubular neck and curving covered trough spout with moulded lions; the loop handle plain, the body with two inscription cartouches containing large stylised Kufic script, above a winged harpie on a scrolling ground, a foliating vase motif either side of this and rope bands between, the shoulder with further Kufic inscription band, minor dents.For similar see: Islamic Metalworks from Afghanistan, The documentation of Ismeo, Italian archaeological Mission, V.
