Half-length Christ in pink alabaster from Trapani

"Belonging to the Tipa family whose father Giuseppe was the initiator, he was a famous sculptor or rather virtuous carver for small works in ivory, amber and alabaster. The torso of the work is in pink Trapani alabaster, commonly called incarnate stone, was in fact used for the particular pink veins that make it similar to human skin. This work, an example of explicit delicacy and finesse, rendered in this material expresses in a realistic way, with the color and natural spots of pink alabaster, the suffering of limbs and face making the pain of Christ on the cross almost real to the imagination and senses.
