ERNEST DEZENTJÉ (Jakarta 1885 – 1972) Indonesian landscape with flamboyant tree Oil on canvas: 23,5 x 3 cm Signed “Ern. Dezentjé” on the lower right corner. Provenance: acquired before 1975. The painting has not been examined outside of the frame Ernest Dezentjé was born in a French origins’ family in Jatinegara, Jakarta, in 1885. A self-taught artist, he is considered a leading member of the early “Indonesian School” of painting. Member of the Bataviasche Kunstkring, he had numerous collective and solo exhibitions in Jakarta, becoming an Indonesian citizen after the World War II. The main subject of his paintings is the Indonesian landscape. He had also many disciples.
