Capriccio
Original acquatint on paper, 28 x 23 cm
Capriccio is an original artwork realized by Jean-Claude Richard de Saint-Non in the second half of the XVIII century.

Very elegant and ancient artwork representing a "capriccio", a view on a fantastic architecture with different elements and monuments of antiquity. The view is on a temple and an ancient pyramid with small human figures in the center of the composition.
The artwork was realized by Jean-Claude Richard de Saint-Non (also known as "The Abbot of Saint-Non") (Paris, 1727 - 1791), a French engraver and art collector, as well as an archaeologist, a patron, and a traveller. He dedicated his life to religion, and entered the Parisian Parliament. He then was exiled in the city of Poitiers. Between 1759 and 1761, he travelled along England and Italy. He was fascinated by the beauty of Calabria and Sicily, and wrote a work titled Voyage pittoresque ou Description des Royaumes de Naples et de Sicile, a report of his trip from 1781 and 1786. A famous portrait of the Abbot of Saint-Non was realized by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, and is currently preserved at the Louvre Museum.
Passepartout included: 51 x 35 cm.
Good conditions.
