China, Qing dynasty, 19th century
The rectangular section reaching the maximum width near the shoulder, along the corners robust rivets in relief, the two semicircular handles protruding from a dragon's head, the polychrome enameled decoration consisting of motifs of archaic taste, including stylized dragons, lanceolate leaves and a taotie mask, six-character apocryphal Jingtai mark incised to the center of the base.
27,5 cm high
Provenance: European private collection.
A vase very similar to this, dated to the 18th century and probably its prototype, is kept in the museum Les Arts Décoratifs-musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris (B. Quette, edited by, Cloisonné. Chinese Enamels from the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, exhibition catalogue, New York 2011, p. 261, n. 73).
