Mixed media on light brown paper, 50 x 70 cm
Signed and titled lower: Lo Scioglilingua, Maccari Photo-Certificate by the Artist BIOGRAPHY: The father is a professor of literature. Maccari graduated in law. He participates as a complement officer in the First World War. In 1922 he took part in the March on Rome. In 1924 he began to collaborate as a graphic designer for the weekly "Il Selvaggio", publishing his first caricatured lineographies. Between 1929 and '31 he was in Turin as editor of the "Stampa" directed at that time by Curzio Malaparte. His presence was very intense, as well as on "I1 Selvaggio", on the pages of "Quadrivio", "Literary Italy", "L'Italiano" and "Omnibus" by Longanesi, then during the war on "Primato" by Bottai and subsequently on Pannunzio's "World", up to Federigo Valli's "Document". His graphic folders are numerous, including Vallecchi's Album (1925), Il trastullo di Strapaese (1928), Linoleum (1931). He illustrates La vecchia del Bal Bullier by Antonio Baldini (1934) and in 1942 publishes the folder Album, followed by Come when out of rain and Il superfluo illustrated. Until the Thirties, participation in exhibitions was not very frequent. In 1938 he held a solo show at the 21st Venice Biennale and exhibited at the Galleria L'Arcobaleno in Venice, presented by Roberto Longhi. In 1948 he obtained the International Engraving Award at the Venice Biennale. Maccari, with his graphic work "highlights the contrast between the intellectual world and the authentic reality of Italian life, evaluates the symptoms, groups them, understands their documentary value, (...) convinced that Italy has the sense of its history in function of its future and must not be disturbed by 'problems', complications, artificial and deviating 'needs' ". (F. D'Amico, 1986). BIBLIOGRAPHY: "Mino Maccari", Catalog of the exhibition, edited by G. Appella, Macerata 1990.
