On the back of the canvas an antique brush inscription: "MASTURZO MARZIO / DISCEPOLO DI SALVATORE ROSA".
The radiographic investigation carried out on the canvas revealed in the layer below the painting a sketch of a portrait of a gentlewoman with a wide ruff.
