Provenance: Italian private collection.
Statuettes similar to these were found in the cargo of the Geldermalsen, shipwrecked in January 1752, recovered by Michael Hatcher and sold at auction in 1986 by Christie's Amsterdam (DS Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader. The Private Market in Chinese Export. Porcelain illustrated from the Hodroff Collection, London 1994, n.301, about two similar sculptures).
