ATTIC RED-FIGURE CALYX-KRATER  Attributable to the Zannoni Painter, ca. 460 - 450 BC  diam. cm 44,5; height cm 42  On the body is represented Poseidon pursuing queen Amymone, daughter of Danaus king of Libya and Europe. The scene is observed by Danaus himself, and either a Nereid or Andromache. The Zannoni Painter was specialised mostly in lekythoi and other usually small vases, some of them decorated in white-ground: so is not known to have decorated this shape (cf. Beazley ARV² 672-674). Restored and partially recostructed as visible on the rim; some sporadic lacks, which do not affect the beauty of the composition and quality of the vase. Provenance.
