FRENCH MANUFACTURE (?), XVIII-XIX CENTURY
Two lions
Coated bronze with golden traces. 18 x 35 x 16,5 cm with marble base; 12,5 x 27 x 14 cm without
Beautiful pair of cast bronze lions meticulously chiseled, as you can see in the detailed skins and manes. These are rendered very realistically through meticulous chiseling and punching.
The splendid plastic rendering gives us two lying lions turning and roaring at each other symmetrically. This very naturalistic outcome can be seen as a recall of late Baroque motifs, although they are placed in a slightly later period.
The state of conservation of the original gilding, together with the dark coating given by time, suggest an 18th century dating.
