Indo-Portuguese ivory Crucifix - Goa, 17th century
carved elephant ivory (Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758 or Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797) “Corpus Christi”. finely carved in full round, the dead Christ depicted with red polychromed stigmata, sidewound and crown of thorns, draped perizonium.
Height x width: 17 (19.5) x 15 cm Weight 166 g.
Item condition grading: **** good (minor defects commensurate with age and use).
Accompanied by Ce.S.Ar. Centro Studi Archeometrici certificate of authenticity and by CITES certificate.
