of globular form finely embossed and chiselled with floral decorations and resting on curly feet. Teapot and coffeepot with hinged lids and floral finals, double scroll handles with foliate thumbpieces and elephant ivory athermic spacers (Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797 or Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758); sugar bowl with side handles, hinged lid and floral final; milk jug with double scroll handle and gilt interior. Austria-Hungary "Diana head" hallmark used between 1872 and 1922 for a silver fineness of 800/1000; the alphanumeric code identifies the Vienna control office. Maker’s mark of Klinkosch Joseph Karl (1822-1888); He became a certified silversmith in 1844 and in 1864 formed a partnership with Stephan Mayerhofer trading as Mayerhofer & Klinkosch. The firm participated to the Viennese World Exhibition of 1873 and the Parisian Exposition Universelle in 1878. In 1869/1870, Klinkosch ended his partnership with Mayerhofer and continued to run the company alone, renaming it J. C. Klinkosch. From 1855 Klinkosch held the Imperial Warrant to the Court of Emperor Franz Josef of Austria. Klinkosch retired in 1884 and the company passed to his two sons, Arthur and Isidor. In 1918, the company was acquired by Arthur Krupp and was incorporated under the name J.C. Klinkosch AG. The company was deleted from the Commercial Register in 1972.
