Carved vory sculpture of St. John the Evangelist, France, 18th century
Height x width x depth: 22 x 7 x 6.5 cm. Weight with wooden base: 850 g.
L’opera, scolpita a tutto tondo in avorio di elefante (Loxodonta africana) raffigura San Giovanni evangelista in piedi, il forte viso è glabro, con larga mascella, incorniciato da lunghi capelli mossi, il braccio destro al petto ed una lunga veste. Basamento in legno tornito ebanizzato. Stato di conservazione: **** buono (difetti a due dita della mano destra, un foro sul fianco destro a denotare la mancanza, forse, del vangelo).
