RAQUEL BELLI (b. 1982), "The Palm Tree"
Pigmented printing on Luster Semimatte 300g/m2 photographic paper, with a single interlaced strip, signed and numbered 7/55.Dimension: 42x29.7 cm.With certificate of authenticity. Raquel Belli (b. 1982) Mother, photographer and visual artist, Portuguese with Italian roots, who for the last eight years has lived and worked between Portugal and East Timor. She graduated in Fine Arts at ESAD in Caldas da Rainha in 2006. In 2008 she completed the Technical Photography Course at ETIC, where she developed and deepened scene photography. She collaborated and participated in several group and individual exhibitions during her studies. After an internship and working for a few years with the magazine Volta Ao Mundo, documentary and travel photography gained importance in his career. In Timor, she collaborated in the creation of the WAP (WomenArtPower), which aimed, through support for the creation and dissemination of art made by women, the empowerment of women in a society that largely still sees them as an incapable and subservient being. While still in Timor, she published a book of photographs about the country's peculiar Christmas, in collaboration with José Ramos-Horta and Xanana Gusmão ("Aqui Onde O Sol, Logo Em Nascendo, See First", 2014). In addition to her documentary work for magazines and newspapers, the plasticity she takes advantage of in her images leads her work to be exhibited in galleries and cultural spaces. She applies techniques and patterns used in basketry and weaving, according to the places where she goes, taking advantage of the apparent randomness of the objects / subjects portrayed and the aesthetics created.
