Lazzaro Efisio Cabras (attr.) - Portrait of Antonia Irene Risos as a child oil on canvas, cm. 120x60 (slight color lacks)Coming from a cosmopolitan family, Antonia Irene Risos was born in Florence on 21 November 1876. Orphan of her father, she moved to Pisa and grew up with her mother Wilhelmina Augusta Walker, close to Lazzaro Efisio Cabras, painter and watercolourist. She was educated in a very stimulating cultural climate. In 1903 she was among the first women to graduate in medicine at the University of Pisa where, in 2010, an exhibition and a book entitled ”Stories of uncommon women” were dedicated to her.
