second half of the 18th century
Technique: oil on canvas applied on wood
Dimensions: 44 x 34 cm
oil painting on canvas glued on oval-shaped board, within a carved and gilded coeval wooden frame.
The small canvas depicts St. Joseph holding up the seated Child, on a red velvet cushion wrapped in a flap of white fabric. The child affectionately embraces his father and with his right hand points to the fruit in his hand. According to traditional iconography, St. Joseph wears a dark robe with a yellow ocher cloak and on his shoulder he carries a flowering rod, an attribute that immediately identifies him and refers to the miracle of the flowering of the dry branch, which made him choose as Mary's husband.
State of preservation: good, small gaps.
