Lisboa: Imprensa Nacional, 1863-1882.

5 v.: il.; 295 mm.

Complete collection of this important historical document on the military events related to the Peninsular War and others from the same period. Profusely illustrated with maps showing the position of troops in confrontation, reproductions of military architecture, portraits, etc. and greatly enriched with the transliteration of documents referring to the events dealt with. The volume referring to the second part was never published. Cláudio Bernardo Pereira de Chaby, honored with numerous decorations, held important positions in the Ministry of War since 1859, namely as Chief of Staff. Exonerated from his post in 1869 with honours, he then continued to work on subsidies for military history since the last years of the 18th century and to collect the documents that were to be transferred from the Archive of the Ministry of War to the Torre do Tombo. During the time he worked for the Ministry of War, one of his commissions deserves special mention, the task of researching and collecting in the Spanish military archives all documents and news related to facts and successes of the peninsular war of the Portuguese army and from which this your work. VERY RARE.
