A very rare work which, in addition to the main text, comprises three more titles: I. Inquiry into the Most Advantageous Construction of Dikes by Bossut and Viallet; II. An Extract of Hydraulic Architecture by M. Belidor; III. Practical Treatise on the Measurement of Running Water and Use of the Parabolic Table by PD Francisco Maria de Regi. Manuel Jacinto Nogueira da Gama (1765-1847), born in the town of S. João d'El Rei in Minas Gerais, graduated in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Coimbra, member of several scientific associations, was a professor in the capacity of Lente of the Royal Academy of Navy from 1791 to 1801, the year in which he was named Inspector General of the Nitreiras and Gunpowder Factory of Minas Gerais and promoted in the following year to Lieutenant Colonel of the Corps of Engineers, leaving for Brazil in 1804. Illustrated with 16 prints on a folding sheet. Very rare.
