THIRD Edition, the first separate. Originally published in 1545, the Crónica de D. João II was integrated into a set of other works by Resende and only in this third edition was it published separately. It seems certain that Resende based and copied a large part of the Crónica from a manuscript left by Rui de Pina and which was only published in the 16th century. XVIII, adding the first years of the monarch's life and a few more episodes witnessed by himself. However, according to the article in the Dicionário de História de Portugal, "in its telling of small stories, of dramatic episodes in the life of the king and palace society", the Crónica written by Resende is "a flagrant and living landscape of the world in which unfolds" (cf. Dic.Hist.Portugal, v. 5, p. 306). Like all 16th century editions, it is extremely rare and very valuable.
