First edition of Sá da Bandeira's manuscripts found in the Military Historical Archive. “In nineteenth-century literature of the memorial type, this document occupies a unique position. Firstly, because, as the author did not intend for public disclosure, it is written unconcernedly, [...] just as a personal record of important facts [...]. It also highlights the accuracy and detail of the descriptions, which were often recorded on the spot and immediately after the events [...]. It should also be noted the wide variety of subjects that the narration touches on [...]” (from the Preface).
