FLAT ROTOR ENGINE CONTROL UNIT FOR "LUCAS" INJECTION CONTROL DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED BY GABELLINI.
Engine control unit - GABELLINI project
The engagement of higher gears or the transition to lower ones was controlled by buttons located on the spokes of the steering wheel. On the SX spoke a green button to move up gears and on the DX spoke a red one to downshift. This experimental sequential gearbox, electronically controlled, was mounted on one of the last F1 cars with a 12 cyl Boxer engine. and, after a few months of fine-tuning led by the series' chief test driver, Giorgio Enrico, it was tested by Scheckter and Villeneuve. The change was rejected by Scheckter after only 3 laps of the Fiorano track while Villeneuve made more than 20 including, on the last lap done, a standing start in front of the pits in the presence of Enzo Ferrari. The start was 'impressive' for its speed, so much so that the Commander said <<with this 'business' we must always start in the front row otherwise we will load all those who are in front onto the front wing>>
Condition: | Very good |
