René Alexandre Arnoux (Grenoble, 4 July 1948) is a former French racing driver.
Active from the mid-seventies to the eighties, he raced both in Formula 2, a category in which he won the title in 1977, and in Formula 1, where he competed for top teams such as Renault and Ferrari. In the top motorsport series he competed in 164 Grand Prix, winning 7 of them, reaching the podium 22 times. Among the drivers who have never won the world championship, he is second, with 18 pole positions.
A combative and correct driver, he was known for his frank speaking. Considered one of the fastest in the entire Circus, according to many he never managed to fully express his potential, but he is remembered as one of the most famous figures in Formula 1.
