Copia 172 di 550 L'opera fa parte della prestigiosa raccolta "La Biblioteca impossibile", che è nata proprio per contribuire alla riscoperta e alla valorizzazione di questo eccezionale patrimonio artistico, riunendo in una collana unica al mondo i codici più importanti commissionati dalle grandi casate che hanno caratterizzato il nostro paese nel corso del Rinascimento, quella stagione irripetibile di cultura e arte che solo l’Italia ha vissuto. Storia: La copia della Divina Commedia di Dante più ricca e celebrata, il preziosissimo volume conosciuto come Dante Urbinate, fu realizzata appositamente per la biblioteca di Federico da Montefeltro. Espressione dello splendore e della magnificenza del Duca, il manoscritto è un capolavoro realizzato con pergamene finissime, straordinariamente miniate. Il codice fu commissionato a Matteo de’ Contugi, famoso copista per i Gonzaga e per gli Este, e a Guglielmo Giraldi, miniatore di scuola ferrarese, con il quale collaborò anche Franco dei Russi. Giraldi e Russi lavorarono alle miniature dell’Inferno e del Purgatorio tra il 1478 e il 1482, anno della morte del Duca. A quel punto la decorazione del codice si interruppe per essere ripresa solo all’inizio del XVII secolo, quando Francesco Maria II della Rovere, ultimo Duca di Urbino, fece completare le miniature da Valerio Mariani.
