NILSSON CHRISTINA: (1843-1921) Swedish Soprano. A.L.S., Nilsson, Csse. de Miranda, four pages, 8vo, Paris, 7th July 1888, to [Olivier] Halanzier, President of the Association of Dramatic Artists, in French. Nilsson states 'I have always been willing to lend my support to events organised in order to come to the assistance to unfortunates of all kinds, and it is certain that those who, in addition to their misfortune, happen to belong to the artistic world, which I am honoured to be part of, and therefore under your patronage, have special entitlement to my sympathy' although continues to add that she can not give an immediate answer to her correspondent's request, explaining her reasons including her health, medical care, and that it is a holiday period when she will be out of Paris for some time, and further remarking 'Moreover, I find myself having reservations about charity events, as a result of the incalculable number of requests sent to me from all directions, and under the auspices of the most prominent citizens. Add to this the promises already made and not yet fulfilled, the difficulty to refuse to some what you grant to others, the links I have with England on one hand, which has been a second homeland to me, with Sweden my homeland, and Spain, my husband's homeland, and you will excuse me if I can't give you a precise time frame to respond to your charitable call, that is nonetheless very close to my heart'. Some very light age wear and minor dust staining, otherwise about VG Olivier Halanzier-Dufresnoy (1819-1896) French Director of the Paris Opera 1871-79.
