GASPARRI PIETRO: (1852-1934) Italian Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church who served as Cardinal Secretary of State under Pope Benedict XV and Pope Pius XI. A.L.S., Pierre Cardinal Gasparri, one page, small 4to, Rome, 3rd October 1933, to Madame la Marquise de St. Vincent de Brassac, in French. Gasparri explains that his correspondent's letter had been buried under a pile of paperwork but has finally reappeared and continues 'I can answer your query (and I apologise for doing it so late), I think it is much better that your Gerbes des Fleurs pass through the hands of the Ambassador to get to Mussolini. It is more reliable', concluding that he would be delighted to receive the Marquise if she comes to spend part of the winter in Rome. With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Gasparri. Some very light, minor age wear and two slight paperclip rust stains which only slightly affect a couple of words of text but not the signature.
