HAUSSMANN GEORGES-EUGENE: (1809-1891) Best known as Baron Haussman. French Prefect of Seine. Appointed by Napoleon III to lead a massive urban renewal in Paris, including boulevards and parks. His vision of the city still dominates central Paris. A very fine A.L.S., G.E. Haussmann, two pages, 8vo, Nice, 29th April 1881, on his red embossed printed stationery of Villa Montboron, to Michaux, in French. Haussman explains to his correspondent that he was at Antibes and only returned today, when he then received his letter. He further reports on financial matters related to a property purchase and to the refurbishments works to accomplish. Haussman expresses his concerns referring to `..a mortgage not yet withdrawn which would strike the new buildings as well as those included in the purchase deal. In this case, Mr. Mosnier will not be able to blame me, since my goodwill has been proven by putting the funds at your disposal´ A clean and good content letter. With blank integral leaf. VG
