HOFMANN AUGUST WILHELM VON: (1818-1892) German chemist who made considerable contributions to organic chemistry. A.L.S., A W Hofmann, one page, 8vo, Royal College of Chemistry, [London], 11th April 1856, to Sharp Heywood. Hofmann thanks his correspondent for the numerous specimens that have been sent, further remarking 'I have already made some very promising experiments, and I hope soon to be able to inform you of perfect success'. With blank integral leaf (slight traces of former mounting to the verso). VG Hofmann served as the first director of the Royal College of Chemistry from 1845-65.
