JOYCE JAMES: (1882-1941) Irish Novelist. Regarded as one of the more influential writers of the 20th century, he is best known for his work Ulysses (1922). A fine A.L.S., `James Joyce, ´two pages, oblong small 8vo card, Paris, n.d., [December 1925 - early 1926], on his personal printed stationery card, bearing to the upper right corner his Parisian address "2, Square Robiac, 192 Rue de Grenelle VII", to Mr. Suter, in French. Joyce annotates beneath his printed address a telephone `Tel - Segur 95-20", and states 'Dear Suter, if Madame Suter is in Paris, maybe she could come here for tea time on Wednesday at 4 or 4h30. My wife wishes to talk to her - not about the servants. If not, would you give me a telephone call?´ Joyce further refers to his health problems saying `How are you? Hope you are well. I have suffered a seventh surgery. It was rather bad this time.´ Joyce had multiple eye-operations during his life. He refers here to the two operations he had in December 1925. Auguste Suter (1887-1965) Swiss Sculptor. Considered one of the greatest Swiss sculptors of all time. Suter and Joyce shared a close and friendly relationship. Suter´s clay sculpture of James Joyce did not survive WWII. Suter´s wife, a professional singer, gave singing lessons to Joyce´s daughter Lucia.
