WEIZMANN CHAIM: (1874-1952) Russian-born Zionist leader who served as the first President of Israel 1949-52. T.L.S., Ch. Weizmann, one page, 8vo, London, 4th August 1940, to Dr. Josef Cohn in New York, on the printed stationery of The Dorchester Hotel. Weizmann thanks his correspondent for their reports and continues 'I can quite understand that the work is not too easy in present circumstances, but I do hope you will not be discouraged. It is only faith in the ultimate outcome that makes life possible at all, and I am myself quite sure that our endeavours will be crowned with success. So one has to carry on.', further adding that he has just sent a long letter to Mr. Ruskin 'giving him some details of what has been happening here', and remarking that it may also be of interest to Cohn and that he should ask him to see it. Matted in cream and red alongside a portrait of Weizmann to an overall size of 16.5 x 12. VG
