CHARPENTIER GUSTAVE: (1860-1956) French Composer. Signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph by Charpentier, the image showing the French composer in a head and shoulders pose, wearing his hat. Charpentier has neatly penned to the upper right mount corner a three bar musical quotation, writing immediately beneath it `O Joli…e´, and beneath the photograph states `To Mademoiselle Jeanne Myrtale - Triumphant Louise - Her fervent admirer, Gustave Charpentier´ in French, also dated November 1925 in his hand. Inscribed and signed in bold black ink to the lower beige mount. Extremely small stains, otherwise VG £150-200 Jeanne Myrtale (1892-1931) Justine Antoinette Goyet, known as Jeanne Myrtale, French Soprano. Myrtale died at the very early age of 38. Louise (1900) is Charpentier´s most acclaimed opera. Charpentier would write to Myrtale´s singing teacher `My dear friend, I send to you the musical libretto of Louise for Miss Jeanne Myrtale. I have written a word trying to express the inexpressible emotion that the last evening performance has caused me and which still continues!´ Charpentier wrote on his libretto `To Mademoiselle Jeanne Myrtale, of the Opera-Comique, magnificent Louise, unforgettable.
