RUBINSTEIN ANTON: (1829-1894) Russian Pianist, Composer and Conductor. An interesting A.L.S., Ant. Rubinstein, two pages, 8vo, Leipzig, 16th February 1879, to Monsieur Gerard, in French. The letter bears at the heading the composer´s monogramme. Rubinstein reminds to his correspondent his plans and requests announced on two previous letters `I told you that I will not be able to be in Paris before April 20th, that I will play piano chez Dauché but will only play at Erard and Pleyel once the Tour de Babel and the Symphony will be performed. So please report to me on your next letter if the time of my arrival is convenient to you, if the performance of the Tour can take place, if the orchestra is capable to perform a very difficult symphony, etc.. etc.. I would not like to go to Paris if the conditions are different to the ones I mention on my last letter, and if they are not possible I´d rather not travel to Paris at all.´ further saying `The conservatory will have finished its concerts at that time…ultimately I prefer it so, because I will appear alone and under my own responsibility, which is what I have always wanted. It will then be two performances of The Tour with a piano session to start and two or three more piano sessions at Erard and Pleyel as you wish.´ A letter of good content with an excellent bold signature example. Very light overall, minor age wear. About VG £200-300 Erard and Pleyel were two renowned piano companies. La tour de Babel (1870) is a music biblical drama by Anton Rubinstein, first edited by Gerard, the correspondent editor in the present letter.
