SAND GEORGE: (1804-1876) French Novelist who used the pseudonym of George Sand, her real name being Amantine Dupin. Also known for her romantic affairs with artists, including Frédéric Chopin and Alfred de Musset. Very interesting A.L.S., G Sand, one page, small 8vo, n.p., 17th March [1852], to Ponsard, in French. Sand expresses the reasons of her relief stating in full `Dear Ponsard, I have been, and my children too, vividly concerned about your person; you have obliged us to go out and look for news about you on such a bad day.´ further saying `Finally, here we are calmer now. You have done things properly. Your adversary has acted well, and we love you.´ A letter of good content. With blank integral leaf. VG £600-900 Francis Ponsard (1814-1867) French Poet. A popular and a successful Playwright. Ponsard was appointed librarian of the Senate, and for this reason and the way he was elected he was intensively accused by a newspaper. For this reason Ponsard resigned and challenged Taxile Delord to defend his honour in duel on 17th February 1852.
