COCTEAU JEAN: (1889-1963) French Writer, Playwright and Filmmaker. A.L.S., Jean Cocteau, twice, one page, 4to, Le Lavandou, Var, 2nd July 1922, to an unidentified editor, in French. Cocteau, in his usual untidy writing, with annotations to the borders, states in part `I have nothing else but this sonnet which I send to you as a testimony of my good wishes for your magazine. Make the corrections and check punctuation is fine. I want it very exact. I enclose a Picasso´s drawing, make a copy and send it back to me. Here you have the description ``Jean Cocteau and M. Chabelska, creator of the little American girl in Parade. Rome 1916. Sketch by Picasso.´´ Cocteau further refers to a critic he will send to his correspondent and to his weakness defending young musicians, also referring to his heath to a border annotation `I will respond to you later regarding the conferences, due to my health, still vague´. The sonnet and the Picasso´s sketch referred to are no longer present. Folded thin paper, with two binder holes to the left border, several small tears to the edges, and overall small creasing to the right edge. F to G £600-900 Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) Spanish Painter. Cocteau refers to the ballet in one act Parade, music by Eric Satie (1866-1925), based on a Cocteau theme, with decorations and costumes by Picasso. Marie Chabelska played the role of the little American girl.
