MOUNTBATTEN LOUIS: (1900-1979) British Admiral of World War II, later serving as the last Viceroy of India of British India (1947) and as the first Governor-General of the Dominion of India (1947-48). T.L.S., Mountbatten of Burma, with holograph salutation and subscription, one page, 8vo, London, 11th May 1955, to Mr. Williams, on the printed stationery of the First Sea Lord at the Admiralty. Mountbatten thanks his correspondent for their letter and continues 'As an old shipmate in the Queen Elizabeth, I am very glad to sign your photograph and I return it herewith' (no longer present), further adding 'Thank you for your congratulations and good wishes on my appointment as First Sea Lord, which I appreciated receiving'.
