DREYER CARL THEODOR: (1889-1968) - DREYER CARL THEODOR: (1889-1968) Danish film Director. Dreyer is regarded by many critics and filmmakers as one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema. Best known for his film The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928). A very fine A.L.S., ` Carl Th. Dreyer´, four pages, 8vo, Paris, 4 th September 1928, on the Hotel Napoleon, avenue Friedland, printed stationery, in French. Dreyer asks his friend and correspondent if she received his letter sent from Berlin, and being critic with the French Film Society, states in part ` Je suis a Paris depuis Samedi - Paris qui est ravissante comme jamais. Dans la Société Générale de films regne la confusion totale. Tout le monde se bat…. On ne m´a pas payé mes appointements… La situation est delicate´ (”I am in Paris since Saturday - Paris which is more than ever lovely. In the Société Générale de Films reigns the total confusion. Everyone is fighting... I have not been paid my due salaries… The situation is delicate”), further referring to his new projects, states ` J´ai trouvé et j´ai proposé deux sujets modernes qui me plaisent. Je vous en raconterai…´ (”I found and I proposed two modern subjects that I like. I will tell you about it..”) Dreyer before concluding refers to the Napoleon hotel in Paris, compares it with the Windsor and insists on his correspondent´s response which he expects promptly. VG
