BAUDELAIRE CHARLES: (1821-1868) French Poet, a pioneering translator of Edgar Allan Poe. A fine A.L.S., `Ch. Baudelaire´, signed twice, also to the address leaf, one page, 4to, n.p. [Paris], n.d. [October 1859], to Paul Meurice, in French. Baudelaire states `Mon cher Meurice, Soyez assez bon pour ne pas m´oublier, et si vous voulez ou si vous pouvez être tout à fait généreux, donnez-moi de quoi emmener quelqu´un avec moi (une dame). Cependant il faut que cela ne vous gene. Tout à vous. Présentez mes respects à Madame Meurice´ (“My dear Meurice, Be good enough and do not forget me, and if you want or if you can be quite generous, give me something in order to take someone with me (a Lady). However, I do not want this to bother you. All yours. Give my respects to Madame Meurice”) With address leaf in Baudelaire´s hand `Monsieur Paul Meurice, Avenue Frochot, 5. Ch. Baudelaire´. Very small overall minor age wear, and toning with few creases to edges, with corner clipped to the address leaf. G

 

Paul Meurice (1820-1905) French Writer. Related to several journals as Chief-editor of L´Evènement and cofounder of Rappel. Meurice´s play Le Roi de Bohème was performed in October 1859 at the Ambigu-Comique theatre.
