DELIBES LEO: (1836-1891) French Romantic composer known for his ballets and operas.
A.L.S., Leo Delibes, to two sides of his personal printed oblong 12mo Visiting Card, featuring his printed name to the centre, Rue de Rivoli, (Paris), n.d. (1889), to a Doctor [Ulysse Trelat], in French. The composer writes, in full, 'Several newspapers announce among the new officers of the Legion of Honour Mr. Trelat, architect. But I saw the official listing and I can finally send you the most affectionate and most sincere congratulations from the whole household'. A couple of very light, extremely minor stains, VG
Ulysse Trelat (1828-1890) French surgeon who served as surgeon-in-chief to most of the major hospitals in Paris and was the co-inventor of an operation to treat cleft palate. Trelat was made a Commandeur de la Legion d'honneur in 1889.
