JAUGE THEODORE: (1747-1794) French Banker. First Aide-de-camp to Lafayette of the French National Guard since 1789. Jauge was guillotined, wearing the red shirt used for murders, accused of collaboration in the assassination attempt of Collot d´Herbois. D.S., by Gallen and Renard and countersigned by `Jauge´, in his capacity as aide-de-camp of Lafayette, one page, 4to, Paris, 15th July 1789, midnight, in French. The document bears the heading of the Assembly of Representatives of the Commune of Paris, and states in part `Regarding the document forwarded to us by Monsieur le Marquis de Lafayette, referring to the Rueil post, we have decided to instruct M. Dubois, Commandant of the Saint-Philippe troops at Roule, now at Rueil, to retreat to his own district with his troops..´ With a black wax seal to the bottom left border. Also countersigned by Veschon de Rochefort. Together with an original printed decree, two pages, 4to, 24th May 1794, in French. The decree approved by the Convention comprises three articles `Related to the assassination attempt of Collot d´Herbois, representative of the people, by Ladmiral´, instructing the revolutionary tribunal to pursue and punish Ladmiral and his partners in crime, stating `..to look for the instigators of this crime attempt..´ The Convention further congratulates citizen Geffroy for having captured the murderer, granting him a pension for his wounds. G to VG, 2 £150-200 Henri Admirat (1744-1794) Also known as Ladmiral, was accused of being the main instigator of the murder attempt and of being the one who shot Collot d´Herbois. Jean-Marie Collot d´Herbois (1749-1796) French Actor, Dramatist and Revolutionary. President of the National Convention June 1793 and a Member of the Committee of Public Safety 1793-94. Although he saved Madame Tussaud from the guillotine, d'Herbois administered the execution of more than 2,000 people in the city of Lyon during the Reign of Terror. According to Napoleon memoires, Julien-Louis Geffroy was never wounded and the murder attempt did not happened as judged by the tribunal.
